On 12 September Egypt Solidarity Initiative will be joining Stop the Arms Fair and other anti-war organisations in protest of the DSEI arms fair. The arms fair is due to take place between 15 and 18 September in ExCel Centre, London, and comprises of over 1000 arms traders attending to showcase their weapons. The DSEI arms fair will push sales of drones and missiles, stirring up repression and committing massacres around the world.
From 7 to 12 September, Stop the Arms Fair is organising a week of action in protest and in attempt to prevent the fair taking place. Monday 7 will focus on the arms trade with Israel, hosted by Boycott Israel network.
On Saturday 12 September, the big day of action, different organisations will join in solidarity to share stories, music and performances and to protest the arms fair. Activists from Egypt Solidarity Initiative will be in attendance to highlight the British backing of the Egyptian military dictatorship.
Andrew Smith of Campaign Against Arms Trade said:
David Cameron should be condemning Sisi’s appalling human rights record, not rolling out the red carpet and welcoming him to Downing Street. If the government wants to show support for those being oppressed in Egypt then they must finally stop arming the regime and withdraw the invitation.”
