Retrial of Alaa Abdel Fattah and others adjourned until September

Alaa Abdel Fattah and other defendants sentenced in the “Shura Council Case” to fifteen years in jail saw their retrial adjourned until 10 September during a short court hearing on 6 August. The 24 accused were originally handed down long sentences in absentia, after the time of their hearing was moved forward without informing them.

The charges were brought after the police attacked a protest outside the Shura Council in November 2013 held in defiance of the anti-protest law and against military trials for civilians.

What you can do:

  • Read more about about the no protest law campaign here
  • Write to the Egyptian authorities via the embassy of Egypt in your country to demand the release of all political detainees and the repeal of the protest law.
