International food workers’ union launches campaign for locked-out Suez strikers

Thousands of trade unionists and activists have backed a campaign by the global federation of food, farm and hotel workers’ unions, IUF, in solidarity with independent trade unionists at the IFFCO edible oils factory in Suez who were arrested earlier this month. The IUF has sent over 4500 protest emails to IFFCO director, Shiraz Allana protesting at the company’s decision to bar the workers from the factory following a strike over pay and conditions.

Police stormed the Suez factory on 3 January, arresting around a dozen workers. Although all the men have now been released, they are facing court on 29 January.
