Activist shot dead by police as she lays a wreath of flowers in Tahrir

police_attack_shaimaa_protestEgyptian police attacked a small group of protesters from the Popular Socialist Alliance today as they commemorated the martyrs of the 2011 revolution with a wreath-laying ceremony in Tahrir Square. Shaimaa El Sabbagh, a 32-year old member of the Alliance, was hit in the back by birdshot and later died of her wounds in hospital. Pictures circulated on Facebook show armed police firing towards the group and chasing them from the square.
